Embracing the Pause

The waves won't tell me when they'll come crashing onto my body

nor will the winds reveal where they'll carry me away

I sit there in silence

my hands stuck to the seat

toes gripping the deck

my body shivering from the cold

I sit there

unperturbed

waiting aimlessly and accepting it all

Salt grains linger on my lips

lashes

and hair

I open my eyes with an effort

seeing the leaping dolphins

people cheering and raising their cameras and phones

They'll soon forget us

just as

we'll forget them

But the machines remember

remember not them

but “Tursiops truncatus”
